Help Us Get To Texas!
For the last month, hundreds of people have helped Sandra, the founder of Worth Manifesto in gathering basic toiletries to bring to the border.
We think access to a shower is a human right, and Sandra, who loves taking showers, was particularly interested in helping other women accessing the elements needed for such a basic thing.
She got in touch with some organizations helping at the border, and launched an ambitious campaign: “Border Crisis: Aid For The Women At The Border” , to gather one thousand shower kits for women, in only one month.
In all honesty, we figured we would get a few bags put together, 200 or 300 at the most, because our number was quite ambitious.
Now, we actually feel embarrassed to admit that we completely underestimated the generosity of people, because they helped, they REALLY really helped! …. (especially after the local newspaper, The Incline, featured an article about the project in it!
The last weeks have been insane, but in a good way.
Our collection points are packed, Sandra’s house is packed, and as a result of this, we are now challenged with something we had not contemplated before: to transport all the help we have collected, and bring it to to McAllen Texas, so we need your help!!.
From Pittsburgh to McAllen TX, beep beep!
McAllen Texas is 2,000 miles away from Pittsburgh. 34 hours of driving… in other words, it’s FAR.
So what is our plan?…
Here is the plan:
To Rent a van for 8 days (approximate cost $800 to $1200 ish)
To drive there 8 hours per day, over the course of 4 days.
- we will need 3 nights of hotel + food (approximate cost $500 to $600).
- we will need gas + tolls (approximate cost $500)
Once in McAllen Texas, we will spend 3 days connecting with the different organizations, and documenting the situation around.
Sandra is a photographer, so she wants to use this opportunity to bring awareness and document the experience.
This part of the process will require lodging for at least another 3 nights.
During the last day, we will drive back to San Antonio, Texas, drop the rental van, and catch a plane back home.
The total cost is between $2000 to $2500.
